Poker Night in America set to film at Rivers Casino Schenectady

It will be lights, camera, action at Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady when the nationally televised Poker Night in America brings the biggest names in professional poker to film for the first time in the Capital Region from 22-25 August.

Poker Brat Phil Hellmuth, Doug Polk, Daniel Cates and Frank Kassela will headline the first ever Poker Night in America $200K heads-up, winner-take-all King of the Hill competition in front of a live audience in Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge, just off the Rivers gaming floor. Each player has put up $50,000 of his own money for the King of the Hill, bracket-style competition. Poker fans are encouraged to attend, or tune in via live stream at Twitch.

“Having these titans of the game and Poker Night in America at Rivers Casino is just another reason Schenectady is the place to be for poker action,” said Rivers Casino & Resort General Manager Mary Cheeks. “I can’t wait to welcome the poker community to Rivers next week!”

Poker fans are advised to keep their eyes on the Rivers Casino & Resort website, as well as the Rivers Casino Facebook and Twitter feeds, for opportunities to meet, greet and even play with Phil Hellmuth, Doug Polk, Daniel Cates and Frank Kassela.

Founded in 2013, Rush Street Productions brought America’s true pastime, Texas Hold’em Poker, to television screens nationwide on CBS Sports Network with its hit series Poker Night in America. Currently in its fifth season, and with more than 150 episodes produced, Poker Night in America continues to showcase amazing cash game poker each week played by the game’s best players and celebrities.

Poker Night in America will follow up the King of the Hill action with filming of its flagship $25/$50 No-Limit Cash Game at Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge on 24 and 25 August. Local players will be competing with some of the biggest pros in the game on a live streamed and televised table.

The poker superstars’ appearance at Rivers will coincide with the return of the wildly popular Capital Region Classic $100K Guaranteed No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament.

The Capital Region Classic will be held over two Days of No Limit Texas Hold’em action, with multiple Day One flights being held from 23 August through 26 August. Players can carry their tournament chips over to Day Two (27 August), where they’ll have a chance to make it all the way to the final table and vie for a piece of the guaranteed $100,000 prize and the title of Capital Region Classic champion.

Day One buy-ins cost $260 for 25,000 in tournament chips with unlimited re-entries. Players wishing to bypass earlier flights and join the action at Day Two can buy-in for $1,100 for 100,000 in tournament chips. The prize pool will be at least $100,000. If participation exceeds that figure, the pool will grow accordingly.

Players coming from out of town for the tournament will receive a 25% discount on a stay at The Landing Hotel, a newly opened, upscale boutique hotel immediately adjacent to the casino.

Registration for the Capital Region Classic is open at Rivers’ main cashier cage. Complete tournament and hotel details can be found online.

For those who want to play with the pros online, there is now a Poker Night in America app based on the hit TV show. Social poker players can enjoy the same poker action they watch on Poker Night as played by the game’s best players and celebrities. The app features amazing prizes, including playing in live streamed poker games and a VIP grand prize package that guarantees players $5,000 in playing cash to play on Poker Night so they too can live like a poker star.
