“Pawn Stars”

Three of television’s biggest “Pawn Stars” are coming to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa on May 21 to purchase items for their shop in Las Vegas.

Rick and Corey Harrison and Austin “Chumlee” Russell from the History Channel series “Pawn Stars” will be purchasing items in a free event open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. inside the Sequoyah Grand Ballroom.

“The show is very popular partially because of the highly skilled staff and the respect shown for customers,” said Jon Davidson, senior director of hospitality services for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. “This will be a fun event that’s open to the public, so even if you don’t have something you want to sell, you can come and watch these guys in action.”

The crew of Gold & Silver Pawn Shop instantly became stars when their reality show debuted on the History Channel in July 2009. Now in its fourth season, “Pawn Stars” is one of the network’s top-rated shows and set a record for the most viewers of an original episode broadcast on Jan. 24, with more than 7 million viewers.

Rick Harrison helped his father, Richard, open Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in 1988. Trained in the business since he was 13, Rick manages the 24/7 business, which includes assisting the more than 1,000 customers a day while being the middleman between his father and son, Corey. Rick is known for being able to spot anything fake or stolen, which has earned him the nickname “The Spotter.”

Corey began working for his father and grandfather at the age of 9, and one day he hopes to take over the family business. Expertly trained in the art of appraisal, Corey is in charge of hiring and firing a staff that is now more than 30 people. He also manages the company’s eBay clients.

As a friend of Corey’s since childhood, Russell has been hanging around the shop since he was a kid and is now an employee of Gold & Silver Pawn. Russell is known for great customer service, but at times he has been in trouble for wanting to purchase items that entertain him but are not good business decisions.

In 2010, the staff of Gold & Silver Pawn Shop was awarded the Pawnbroker of the Year Award by the National Pawnbrokers Association for bringing the industry greater recognition and a better image with the show.
