Lee Chang-won, director of Dongmyeong University’s soccer team

Dongmyeong University announced on the 21st that it held a soccer team foundation ceremony at Dongmyeong University’s headquarters management hall on the 20th. Participants included Byun Seok-hwa, chairman of the Korea University Football Federation, Kim Byung-seok, CEO of Busan I-Park, Han Cheong-soo, CEO of the Sookmyung Jeon Hyeong-doo Football Association, and Park Jong-kwan, general manager of college football. In particular, Hwang Hee-chan sent a congratulatory video, adding a special meaning.

Lee Chang-won will take the helm of Dongmyeong University’s soccer team. Lee Chang-won, who marked a milestone in the youth history of the Pohang Steelers, is famous for producing big players such as “Bull” Hwang Hee-chan, Lee Kwang-hyuk, Lee Kwang-hoon, Moon Chang-jin, Moon Kyu-hyun and Jung Won-jin.

In 2014, he posted an outstanding record of 40 wins, four draws and eight losses in seven domestic and international competitions. In 2021, he took charge of Daegu Art University and put the team on top of the 58th Autumn University Football Federation match in the Baekdu Daegan season in August last year.

In his inaugural address, Lee vowed to do his best to become a competitive team without losing ground to the Seoul metropolitan area. “We will contribute to the development of Korean soccer by producing many great players under the competent coach Lee Chang-won,” said Jeon Ho-hwan, president of Dongmyeong University. “We will take a leap forward to the prestigious Do-ing (challenge, experience, practice) Dongmyeong University.”

Dongmyeong University, which plans to open a new soccer department for the 2024 school year, has decided to provide full support to Lee, including granting him a teaching position. The university has also decided to lay new grass on the field and provide accommodation and buses for athletes.
