K League 1 Ulsan wins away to Daejeon for the first time in 11 years…

Professional soccer’s K League 1 Ulsan HD won away to Daejeon for the first time in nearly 11 years, extending its unbeaten streak to five league matches and maintaining its lead at the top of the table.

Ulsan held on to a goal by Bojanic from the penalty spot in the 18th minute to win 1-0 in the 32nd round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 against Daejeon Hana Citizens at Daejeon World Cup Stadium on Sunday.

Ulsan, unbeaten in its last five league matches (four wins and one draw), has accumulated 58 points to lead the table. They are five points behind second-place Gimcheon Sangmu (53), who host Gwangju FC on Aug. 28 for their Round of 32 match.

Ulsan also snapped a two-match winless streak in official matches, losing 0-1 to Kawasaki Frontale in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite (ACLE) on April 18 and drawing 0-0 with Incheon United in the league on April 22.

Ulsan also won its first league away match against Daejeon in 11 years and five months, since April 17, 2013 (3-0).

Daejeon remained in the second division from 2014-2022, and Ulsan failed to win any of their three meetings with Daejeon last year, when they returned to the top flight. They lost 0-2 in the fifth round on April 2, their first trip to Daejeon this year, before finally taking three points.

Meanwhile, Daejeon, whose unbeaten run in the league was snapped at seven games (four wins and three draws), failed to add to their 35 points and remained in ninth place.

Ulsan, who had been held scoreless in their last two official matches, went in search of a goal with a gameplan that featured Lee Min-gyu and Kim Ji-hyun as the starting front three.

National striker Lee Min-gyu, who has been on a goal drought for more than two months since his last goal in the 23rd round against FC Seoul on July 13, failed to find the back of the net on this occasion, but he set the stage for the game-winning goal in the 16th minute of the first half with a penalty kick.

Daejeon defender Lee Sang-min was brought down in the penalty area as he attempted to receive a cross from his teammate, and Bojanic stepped up to take the penalty kick, which he converted with a strong right-footed shot to seal the game.

Daejeon, who spent the first half with a one-goal deficit after Masa’s left-footed mid-range shot from the front of the penalty arc was blocked by goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo’s punch in the 37th minute, started the second half with veteran striker Kim Seung-dae and defender Oh Jae-seok on the bench and pushed harder.

In the fifth minute of the second half, Kim Moon-hwan connected with a right-footed shot from the right side of the penalty area after Kim Seung-dae cut the ball back in front of the goal, but it went just wide left of the post.

Ulsan missed a golden opportunity to add to its lead in the 12th minute of the second half when Lee Chung-yong’s cross was headed in by Lee Min-gyu in front of the goal, but Daejeon goalkeeper Lee Chang-geun made the save just in front of the goal line.

Daejeon then substituted Kim In-gyun for Choi Gun-joo in the 20th minute, while Ulsan responded in the 24th minute by taking off Kim Ji-hyun and Bojanic for Yago and Mateusz.

Daejeon, which utilized the cards of Kim Hyun-wook and Chun Sung-hoon to increase its firepower, pushed harder in the final minutes, but was unable to find the equalizer as Cho Hyun-woo made a ‘good save’.

At the Pohang Steel Yard, the Pohang Steelers defeated ‘last place’ Incheon United 1-0 thanks to a penalty kick from Georges.

Pohang, who picked up their second straight win after a six-match winless streak, moved up one spot to fourth with 50 points, while Incheon (32 points) failed to escape the bottom of the table following a three-match winless streak (one draw and two losses).

Incheon had the first chance to score.

Shin Shin-ho’s right-footed free kick from the right side of the penalty area in the seventh minute of the first half hit the crossbar, but did not result in a goal.

After a scoreless first half, Pohang failed to capitalize in the second half as Hong Yoon-sang’s right-footed shot from the left side of the penalty area was blocked by a goalkeeper punch in the 11th minute, and Wandelsson’s left-footed shot from in front of the penalty area went straight at the keeper in the 22nd minute.

Pohang continued to attack, and in the 33rd minute, Kim Jong-woo’s header attempt from the front of the goal area struck the arm of Incheon defender Yonichi, and the referee awarded a penalty kick after a video assistant referee (VAR) on-field review.

Pohang completed a comfortable two-game winning streak in the 37th minute when Georgi stepped up as the penalty kicker and scored with a right-footed shot.

After scoring a “theater goal” in stoppage time against Gangwon FC in the 31st round of the previous competition, Georgi has now scored a goal in two consecutive matches and four offensive points (three goals and one assist) in four consecutive matches. 토토사이트 추천
