It is the “Seoul Spring” that leads the K-League crowd in the 2024 season.
A total of 51,670 people attended the match between FC Seoul and Incheon United in the second round of Hana Bank’s K-League 1 2024 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Wednesday, when warm sunlight delivered the spring spirit. It was a feverish atmosphere reminiscent of the A-match series for the Korean national team. 먹튀검증
It is one of the most popular events in the history of the K-League. The last time more than 50,000 spectators attended a K-League match was 12 years ago. After Aug. 18, 2012 (57,87) against Samsung in Seoul-Suwon, the box office continued its history, which had been suspended for a while.
On March 6, 2011, a new record was set for the largest number of spectators at an opening match, surpassing 51,606 against Seoul and Suwon Samsung. This is also the fourth highest number of spectators at a single match in the K-League history. The top spot was the Seoul-Seongnam match on May 5, 2010, with 67,747 spectators. The second place (56,759 against Seoul-Jeju on December 5, 2010) and the third place (55,397 against Seoul-Suwon Samsung on April 8, 2007) are all events in Seoul. This match has become the largest number of spectators since the 2013 season when the promotion system was divided into K-League 1 and K-League 2.
The number of spectators on this day is particularly significant because it is the largest number of spectators since 2018, when the full tally was introduced. Seoul attracted 45,007 people thanks to the trot singer Lim Young-woong’s fandom, which was held at the Seoul-Daegu match on April 8 last year, and this time it exceeded 50,000 spectators due to the Jesse Lingard effect from the English Premier League.
Cloudy spectators also flocked to Mokdong Stadium, where the second edition of the K-League “Super Match” took place after Suwon Samsung was demoted. Seoul E-Land had sold 8,480 tickets through pre-order alone until the morning of the day, setting the record for the largest number of spectators (7,266) in the team’s history. Out of a total of 13,240 seats, 9,123 people filled the seats, setting the record for the largest number of spectators in K-League 2.
Manager Kim Do-kyun, who defeated Suwon Samsung 2-1 in front of the fans, said, “The players must have been encouraged (in front of a big crowd). I think it’s very big because we won in front of a lot of fans. Based on this upward trend, I hope more fans will come and cheer for us at home games,” and added, “I think you will be able to see E-Land, which is a little different from before.”
