Heungkuk Life ‘stepped up to the plate’, beats IBK 3:1 in hard-fought win

The team won the sixth round match of the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League against IBK IBK Business Bank 3-1 (25-20, 29-31, 25-19, 25-17) at the Hwaseong Sports Town Indoor Gymnasium on Friday.

Kim Yeon-kyung showed off her fixer instincts in the match-clinching fourth set, scoring five of the six points her team needed to win 19-15.

IBK struggled to get past Heungkuk despite Brittany Abercrombie’s 35 points.

IBK, which has lost all six of its meetings with Heungkuk Sinsaeng this season, remains in fifth place with 15 wins, 18 losses and 46 points, effectively eliminating it from the spring volleyball season.

Depending on the outcome of tonight’s match, the race for the top spot will become even more intense. Heungkuk Life has taken the lead, but with one more match to play, the lead will change again if Hyundai E&C can pick up even one point in Gimcheon against Korea Expressway Corporation on Saturday.

The race for the top spot will be decided on the final day of the season when the two teams meet at Suwon Gymnasium on Nov. 12. In fact, it will be a one-game match to decide the top spot in the regular season.
