Figure Understander finishes fourth in NHK Trophy… ‘not in the final’

Korean figure women’s singles ‘Ganpan’ Lee Hae-in (Sehwa Girls’ High School) failed to overcome the International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Senior Grand Prix Series ‘no-medal jinx’ and secure her ‘Final Ticket’.

Lee earned 126.02 points in the women’s single free skate at the NHK Trophy, the sixth event of the 2023-2024 International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Figure Senior Grand Prix, with a technical score (TES) of 60.15 and a performance score (PCS) of 65.87 on Friday in Osaka, Japan.

After scoring 62.93 points in the short program the previous day, Lee finished with a total of 188.95 points, just missing out on the medals in the final four behind Ava Marie Ziegler (200.50 points), Lindsey Shongreen (198.73 points-USA) and Nina Panzarone (194.66 points-Belgium).

With a fourth-place finish at the third Grand Prix event, Lee needed more than a runner-up finish to qualify for the Grand Prix Final (Dec. 7-10 in Beijing, China), which is reserved for the top six Grand Prix Series performers this season, but her fourth-place finish was not enough to secure a spot.

In particular, Lee, who began competing in the Senior Grand Prix Series in the 2021-2022 season, continued his jinx of failing to reach the podium in six Grand Prix events (four fourth-place finishes, one seventh-place finish and one 10th-place finish).

With Pinzarone’s bronze medal at the event, Kim Chae-yeon (Surigyo) also missed out on a Grand Prix Final ticket as she slipped to seventh in the final Women’s Singles Ranking Points standings.

As a result, both the Korean men’s and women’s singles have failed to qualify for the Senior Grand Prix Final this season.

Lee was unable to improve her score in the free skate as her jumps were not perfect.

Out of seven jumps, she lost GOE points for lack of rotation in all but the first double axel-triple toe loop combination jump and the second triple lutz-double axel sequence.

Kim Yerim (Dankook University – 183.19 points) and Wee Seo-young (Surigyo – 158.15 points), who competed together, finished seventh and 10th, respectively. 먹튀검증
