Fierce competition ‘London derby opening night’
The London derby is set to be fought over an illegally betting striker.
“Chelsea’s interest in Toni has been steady,” said British media outlet Football London on Thursday.
“Tony has also been linked to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur,” the report said, adding, “It is a risk to sign a player who has missed more than half the season.”
Born in 1996, Tony’s physicality allows him to compete with opposing strikers and fight for possession.
He is also praised for his quick feet and ability to get into the back of the defense. He finished third in goals last season, behind Elling Holland and Kane.
However, Tony was caught betting illegally the previous season. It was reported that he had done so 232 times in four years.
Toni has been suspended for illegal betting and will not be able to play until January 16th of next year.
Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs interested in him, and Tottenham are expected to make a move for him.
Tottenham have suffered a power leak in the transfer market this summer, with the departure of reliable goalkeeper Kane.
Kane has decided to end his relationship with Tottenham after being linked with the club in the summer transfer window. He decided that a new destination was the answer to fulfill his championship ambitions.
Tottenham offered a huge weekly wage to keep Kane, as well as a post-playing life as a coach and ambassador.
However, Kane was stubborn in his desire to leave, so Tottenham decided to go for a transfer fee.
Bayern Munich and Tottenham were unable to agree on a fee, but once they did, the transfer accelerated.
Bayern Munich offered more than €100 million ($145.8 billion) for Kane, and the deal was finalized when Tottenham accepted the offer.
Tottenham are on the lookout for a goalie to fill their striker void and Brentford’s Ivan Toney is reportedly on the shortlist.
However, there are those who are against Tottenham signing him. The reason: Son Heung-min.
“I’m not sure if Tottenham will jump at the chance to sign Tony,” said Spurs fan site Spurs Web. First of all, the transfer fee would be expensive. I also don’t think he’d fit into Enze Postecoglou’s system,” said the site.
“I don’t think Tottenham’s winter transfer priority will be Toni. Especially if Son Heung-min is playing as a frontline striker.”
Son Heung-min has been Tottenham’s frontline striker this season, filling the void left by Kane to some extent.
With Kane’s departure leaving a gaping hole in the frontline, Spurs have decided to put their faith in Heung-min. Expectations were high, with some good performances in pre-season friendlies.
However, he hasn’t been able to find the back of the net in the league since the start of the season, leaving Spurs in a quandary.
Postecoglou threw a curveball. In the fourth round of the league against Burnley, he put Son Heung-min in the front line instead of Heyselisong.
Heung-min fulfilled his role as a frontline striker.
In the 16th minute of the first half, when Tottenham were down 1-0, Heung-min equalized with a sensational chip shot after he saw the goalkeeper come out and give him space following a passing play with Manor Solomon.
From there, it was Son’s show. In the 19th minute of the second half, after receiving a pass from Solomon, Heung-min surged forward and scored his team’s fourth goal and his second of the season with a direct shot.
Heung-min’s scoring streak didn’t stop there. In the 22nd minute of the second half, he found space behind the Burnley defense and 스포츠토토 found the back of the net again after receiving a pass from Foro. It was his first hat-trick of the season.
It was the fourth hat-trick of his career. After Southampton (2020/21), Aston Villa (2021/22), and Leicester City (2022/23), this is the fourth time he has scored against Burnley this season.
The BBC said, “Son is another thrilling attacking option for Tottenham. His hat-trick showed he’s not as miserable as many thought after the Kane deal.”
“With Maddison’s creative play and Son Heung-min’s goalscoring exploits, any excessive complaints about Kane reliance have all but evaporated,” he added, noting that they are filling the void well.
