Doosan one-two punch again next year

The Doosan Bears have completed the lineup of foreign players who will join them next season and are starting to prepare for the 2024 season in earnest.

The Doosan Club announced the renewal of contracts with foreign pitchers Raul Alcantara and Brandon Waddell through an official press release on the 21st. The new foreign batsman was Henry Ramos. 카지노사이트랭크

A total of $1.5 million (approximately 1.95 billion won) was signed with Alcantara, including a contract deposit of $500,000, an annual salary of $800,000, and incentives of $200,000.

Alcantara started 31 games in the 2023 season and pitched 192 innings, recording 13 wins, 9 losses, and an ERA of 2.67, taking center stage on the Doosan mound.

Alcantara showed off his unique ‘inning eating’ ability by playing the most innings in the entire league in the 2023 season.

He ranked first in this category with 22 quality starts, standing tall as the best starting pitcher not only for Doosan but also for the 10 teams.

Brandon will also wear the Doosan uniform for three consecutive years. He signed a contract for a total of $1.13 million (about 1.48 billion won)

including a signing bonus of $250,000, an annual salary of $750,000, and incentives of $130,000.

After wearing the Doosan uniform as a replacement foreign player in the 2022 season

Brandon achieved decent results with 5 wins, 3 losses, and an average ERA of 3.60 in 11 games and 65 innings. Although his contract was not renewed ahead of the 2023 season

he was called up by Doosan once again based on his good performance in Taiwanese professional baseball this year.

Brandon showed off even more outstanding pitching in his second year in the KBO League. He played the role of Doosan’s one-two punch along with Alcantara with 11 wins, 3 losses, and an average ERA of 2.49 in 18 games and 104⅔ innings.

Because he joined mid-season, he was unable to fill the required number of innings, but he recorded 13 quality starts in 18 starts and delivered stable pitching every time he took the mound. He also made history as the first substitute foreign player to record double-digit wins in the history of the Doosan club.

Doosan coach Lee Seung-yeop hoped to renew contracts with Alcantara and Brandon early on after completing the 2023 season with this year’s wild card game.

It was hoped that the two players would play an active role as the Bears’ first and second starters in the 2024 season.

Manager Lee Seung-yeop expressed strong trust during the closing camp last month, saying

“Alcantara pitched the most innings and provided the most quality starting pitching in the KBO League this year. There is no reason not to renew the contract.”

Regarding Brandon, he also emphasized, “It is truly amazing that he recorded 11 wins even though he joined in the middle of the season.

Like Alcantara, if there are no major problems with his body, I would like to renew his contract. As a coach, I need both of them next year.”

It is also positive that Alcantara is young, as he was born in 1992 and Brandon was born in 1994.

Doosan predicts that the two players will be able to show this year’s performance in the 2024 season as there were no signals of concern about a sudden decline in skill or position.

Henry Ramos was the main foreign hitter for Doosan’s 2024 season that attracted attention. Ramos agreed to a contract with Doosan for a total of $700,000 (approximately KRW 910 million), including a contract deposit of $50,000, an annual salary of $550,000, and incentives of $100,000.

Doosan used foreign hitter Jose Rojas this season, but his performance was somewhat ambiguous

Rojas recorded a batting average of 0.253 (102 hits in 403 at-bats), 19 home runs, 65 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.819 in 122 games.

Except for his low batting average, Rojas’ productivity was not that bad,

but his partnership with Doosan ended due to his poor starting pitching plan and insufficient defensive ability to cover the wide Jamsil outfield.

The Doosan team expressed expectations, saying, “Ramos is a right-handed hitting outfielder with a stout physique of 183 cm in height and 97 kg in weight, and is capable of swinging powerfully from both the left and right at-bats.

He is expected to contribute to the team’s power as he has a strong arm and a good eye for the ball.” “There is,” he said.

Ramos first came to Korea as a member of KT Wiz in 2022. Recording excellent results in his exhibition games

he took his first steps smoothly and appeared to adapt quickly to the KBO.

But injuries caught up with Ramos. He left the service on April 23 last year due to a fractured toe. In 2023

he participated in 76 games in the pitcher-friendly International League (Triple A) and recorded a batting average of 0.318, an on-base percentage of 0.411, 13 home runs, 55 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.954. Detailed indicators are continuing to rise

with a total of 440 games in 6 seasons in Triple A, a batting average of 0.301, 55 home runs, and an OPS of 0.847.

Meanwhile, Doosan ranked 5th with 74 wins, 68 losses, 2 draws, and a winning percentage of 0.521 in the regular league under the leadership of new coach Lee Seung-yeop

the ‘national hitter’ this year. Last year, they finished in 9th place and entered the postseason,

shaking off the disappointment of having had a fall without ‘baseball’ for the first time in 8 years since 2014.

However, the 2023 season journey came to a halt as they lost 9-14 to the NC Dinos, ranked 4th in the regular league, in the wild card game. After a short break

final training began at the 2nd team stadium in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do in November, and the 1.5 team players, including fourth hitter Kim Jae-hwan

worked hard for a month to make a leap forward.

The Doosan front office was also busy strengthening its power. Internal free agent first baseman Yang Seok-hwan was retained for a contract period of 4+2 years and a total of 7.8 billion won.

With the completion of the formation of foreign players, almost all major issues in the Stove League have been resolved.

Only free agent negotiations remain with Hong Geon-hee, the nucleus of the bullpen who was in charge of pitching this season.

After a short rest and personal training throughout the winter, the Doosan team is scheduled to leave for spring camp in Blacktown, Sydney, Australia, on January 29th next year.

Starting in mid-February, the team plans to move to Miyazaki, Japan to improve their sense of real-life combat through practice games with other clubs.
