Confirming the PO match table
SK beat LG 82-62 in the 2023-2024 regular basketball league home game held at Jamsil Student Gymnasium in Seoul on the 28th.
SK, which won 31 games and lost 22 games, beat fifth-ranked Busan KCC (28 wins and 24 losses) by 2.5 games to take fourth place regardless of the results of the remaining one game. As a result, SK embraced its home advantage of playing the first, second and fifth games on its home turf in the semifinal playoff against fifth-ranked KCC (best-of-five series) that starts on April 4.
For SK, Jamil Warney led the team to win with 21 points and 16 rebounds, while Kim Sun-hyung (12 points), Oh Jae-hyun and Leon Williams (11 points) also contributed by scoring double digits. On the other hand, LG struggled hard with Yang Hong-seok scoring 19 points, but failed to avoid defeat.
On the day, SK was in an advantageous position to confirm its fourth place if it adds one more win before the game. However, if it loses at the same time, it could yield the fourth place to KCC.
It got off to a good start as there was solid motivation. Sharp attacks by Warney and Kim Sun-hyung broke LG’s defense, and SK finished the first quarter with an 18-10 lead as Oh Jae-hyun, who returned from injury, also boosted the mood with consecutive points.
SK, which was riding the flow, did not give up the lead in the second quarter as well. Adding Williams’ performance in offense and defense, Oh Jae-hyun’s three-point shot, Yang Woo-seop and Warney’s support for scoring, SK gradually ran away. On the other hand, LG ended the first half with SK still leading 42-25 as Asem Maray was blocked by Williams and Choi Bu-kyung and their offense was blocked.
Early in the third quarter, LG’s counterattack seemed to start. LG narrowed the gap with Yang Hong-seok scoring six consecutive points following Yoo Ki-sang and Lee Jae-do. However, SK brought the tide back with Warnie’s scoring streak, ending the third quarter 63-45.
SK, which has strong motivation to win the match and confirm the fourth place, and LG, which already confirmed the second place, showed a difference in attitude. Three-pointers by Kim Sun-hyung and Oh Se-geun passed the rim in succession, and Wony’s dunk also scored, solidifying SK’s win. Then, LG virtually admitted its defeat by bringing all of its key players to the bench.
