‘3-6’ KCC coach Chang-jin Jeon “First doubleheader?…I can’t even think about it”
Busan KCC head coach Jeon Chang-jin, who is the “protagonist” of the first men’s and women’s professional basketball doubleheader in Korea, said he can’t think about anything but his team’s poor performance.
“The most important thing for us is to improve our physical condition,” Jeon told reporters before the team’s home game against Daegu Korea Gas Corporation in the 2023-2024 regular season at Sajik Gymnasium in Busan on the afternoon of the 25th. We can’t think about anything else,” he said.
An hour before the game started, BNK, a women’s professional basketball team with ties to Busan, along with KCC, finished their first game against Bucheon Hana OneQ at the same venue.
It was the first doubleheader to be scheduled between the men’s and women’s professional basketball programs.
While BNK has been using Sajik Gymnasium as its home since the 2021-2022 season, KCC moved from Jeonju to Busan ahead of this season, bringing the two teams together under one roof.
Both teams were scheduled to play their home games at Sajik Gymnasium on the 25th, and the KBL and WKBL scheduled them back-to-back with the only adjustment being the game time.
Before the game, BNK head coach Park Jung-jeong said, “In our opening game, the (KCC) manager, coaching staff, and players came and supported us. We didn’t show a good game then, but I hope we can play a good game this time and the flow will continue (to KCC),” but the team lost to Hana OneQ 54-63.
“It’s the first time (a men’s and women’s doubleheader) for us anyway,” said Jeon, who couldn’t hide a smile after hearing Park’s words of encouragement, but sighed, “But our team is not playing well right now.”
KCC, the pre-season favorite, has a record of three wins and six losses in its first nine games.
“After nine games, it’s too shabby. “Heo Woong was hospitalized with the flu after the last game, and Choi Jun-yong joined the team yesterday because of the flu, so everyone is not feeling well,” said Jeon.
“We can’t play against any team with our lazy mental state,” he added.
Jeon included Song Gyo-chang in his roster for the game against KOGAS. The addition of the national team forward is expected to be a big boost for the star-studded KCC squad.
The former coach explained that Song has not yet fully recovered from his injury.
“He’s not in shape to play a lot. I’m just trying to get him to join the team and train with us, and when I get a chance, I’ll let him play five to 10 minutes in the game,” Jeon said. 토토사이트
