2024 GANGWON WINTER YOUTH OLYMPIC TORCH IGNITED IN WONJU- BOOM AND PRAYERS FOR SUCCESS

The torch of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games arrived in Wonju, Gangwon Province, on the 28th and shone brightly. The seventh torch tour event in the province was held at Baekwoon Gymnasium of Yukminguan High School. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon attended the event and encouraged the interest and participation of Wonju citizens and youth in the successful hosting of the Games. Governor Kim Jin-tae of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, Won Kang-soo, Mayor of Wonju, Joo Young-il, Superintendent of Wonju Education Support Agency, Bang Jong-sik, Principal of Yukminguan High School, International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Kim Jae-yeol, and co-chairs of the Gangwon 2024 Organizing Committee Jin Jong-oh and Choi Jong-gu also attended and supported the event.

The torch was placed on a pedestal by Principal Bang Jong-sik, who was accompanied by Jin Jong-oh, the co-chairman of the organizing committee, and then Eun-ji Ham of the Wonju Weightlifting Unemployment Team, Jun-ho Hong, a teacher at the school, and students Won Chae-yeon, Jeong Ju-hyun, and Shin Sung-bin lit the flame with the hope that the 2024 Games will be a stage for the dreams and passions of young people .In addition to lighting the flame to pray for the success of the Games, the event also featured winter sports experiences, recycled key ring making, OX quizzes for Olympic value education, and cultural performances by the Wonju City Hall Boys’ Symphony Orchestra.

Minister Yoo In-chon said, “The enthusiastic cheers and the gathering of hearts have strengthened my belief that the 2024 Games will be a success.” Governor Kim Jin-tae said, “We will show that hosting the Games in Gangwon Province will be different,” and urged people to book tickets online as soon as possible, as all events are free to attend. “I sincerely hope that the youth from all over the world participating in the Winter Youth Olympic Games, which will be held for the first time in Asia, will unite and grow together,” said Mayor Won Kang-soo.
