Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior (BRA) has been ruled out of the Spanish professional soccer Primera Liga’s World Cup qualifiers with a hamstring (muscle in the back of the thigh) injury.
Vinicius injured his right hamstring on Sept. 29 and will be out for about a month, the Associated Press reported.
According to ESPN, Vinicius will be out for about six weeks, including two UEFA Champions League group stage games, until the team’s ninth round La Liga match against Osasuna on Oct. 8.
Vinicius was substituted in the first 18 minutes of the third-leg La Liga match against Celta Vigo on Sept. 26 after sprinting off and grabbing his thigh.
“It’s not a serious injury,” Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said after the game, adding that “Vinicius will return after the A-match (international break).”
It’s also an emergency for the Brazilian national team ahead of South American qualifiers for the 2026 North and Central American World Cup.
Vinicius is expected to miss World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia on Sept. 9 and Peru on Sept. 13 next month.
