Neymar, Mbappe ‘unfollow’ each other on social media
Former teammates Neymar (Al Hilal) and Kylian Mbappe (PSG) have severed ties on social media.
“Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are at war” and “their friendship did not last,” French outlet Sport France reported on Thursday.
The source of the media’s claims of a rift between Neymar and Mbappe is social media. According to the outlet, the two players had followed each other on Instagram during their time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but unfollowed each other after Neymar’s departure for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
In fact, when I checked the list of people followed on both players’ Instagram accounts, I searched for each other’s names and nothing came up. Neymar also unfollowed his former team, PSG.
The “social media unfollowing” incident led many to believe that Neymar and Mbappe had a history of feuds, both large and small, during their time together at PSG. Both players were among the club’s biggest stars and the heart of its attack, but there were several incidents on and off the field that could have led to suspicions of discord.
Last August, Mbappe missed a penalty against Montpellier HSC in the second round of the 2022/23 French Ligue 1 season. Afterward, a soccer fan posted on Instagram, “Mbappe shouldn’t take penalties in the future,” which sparked controversy when Neymar liked the post.
“PSG’s new director, Luis Campos, has promised Mbappe that he will release Neymar,” said journalist Loic Tanzi, who is well versed in PSG news. “He promised Mbappe that he will give him more freedom to play in attacking situations than before.”
Both players have strong egos and want to be the centerpiece of PSG’s attack, and don’t want to play a supporting role to their teammates, so it’s not just a competition between Mbappe and Neymar, but an emotional battle.
Some media outlets have even claimed that a factional fight has broken out within PSG.
French publication L’Equipe reported in September last year that “the majority of the players who are South American or Spanish-speaking, such as Marquinhos and Lionel Messi, are supporting Neymar. They are fed up with Mbappe.” “The players who are supporting Mbappe are fellow Frenchmen Presnel Kimpembe, Nordy Moukiele and Hugo Ekitiike.”
The Neymar-Mbappe conflict ended when Neymar left the team. Neymar left Europe on March 16, joining Saudi Arabia’s top flight Al Hilal. Details 사설토토 of his contract and salary are unknown, but according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Neymar signed a two-year deal with Al-Hilal worth $300 million, or $407 million in total, with annual wages of $150 million.
Mbappe, on the other hand, was expected to leave during last summer’s transfer window after a falling out with the club over the length of his contract, but he dramatically reconciled and stayed at PSG. Since the start of the season, Mbappe has proven himself to be the PSG ace, scoring five goals in three league games.
French media reported that Mbappe had demanded the release of Neymar as a condition of ending his conflict with the club.
