Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop “thinks of it as a ground home run” after third ejection

Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yeop (47) was ejected for the third time this year on Wednesday against the Samsung Lions in Jamsil.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, with Doosan trailing 4-8, leadoff hitter Yang Seok-hwan hit a ball that hit the top of the center field fence, and the umpires’ initial call was a home run.
The ball deflected and came back to the ground, and with the Samsung fielding staff unable to handle it, Yang stole first, second, and third base before reaching home.
The Samsung bench requested video review, which confirmed that the ball had not crossed the yellow line for a home run, and Yang was reassigned to third base.
Lee protested the call to the umpire and was ordered to leave the game. In the KBO, a manager is automatically ejected if he protests a video review.
This is the 10th managerial ejection of the season and the third time Lee has left the bench during a game this year.
Speaking before the game against Jamsil Samsung on Wednesday, Lee said, “I thought the (ground) ball should have been awarded because the opposing defense gave up and didn’t play to the end. The umpires agreed with the scorekeeper that it was a triple,” he said.
Lee said he wasn’t too unhappy with the umpires’ decision to call it a triple instead of a home run, but he praised Yang for trying his best until the end.
“I tell my players to play their best until the end, no matter the situation. Yang Seok-hwan did what we asked him to do from the bench,” Lee said.
Doosan ultimately fell to Samsung 5-9, snapping a six-game losing streak to the Korean giant. With a 1-9 record against Samsung this season, even if Doosan wins all six of its remaining games, it will not be able to overcome the deficit.
“There are a lot of games that don’t go well, and there are a lot of twists and turns, so I think we have to win quickly to turn the tide. I’m hoping that Keisho Shirakawa, a new player who starts today, will give us a fresh start.”
Doosan signed Shirakawa as a short-term foreign replacement for Brandon Waddell, who was sidelined with an injury.
Shirakawa first joined the SSG Landers as a short-term replacement and parted ways with SSG after going 2-2 with a 5.09 ERA in five games.
“It’s my first time pitching for Doosan, but I’ve pitched a lot in the KBO, so I’m not too worried. I’m worried about whether he’ll be nervous, but he’s experienced, so I think he’ll do well.” 안전한 파워볼사이트
